Guyana Bara


2 cups flour

1/2 cup yellow split peas flour

2 cloves garlic

1 small pepper

1 1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp tumeric

2 tsp chop scallions

1 packet yeast

1 1/2 cup water divided

Oil for frying


In a small bowl,  take 1 cup of luke warm water and add yeast. Set aside for 5 minutes.

In a medium bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together, add the remain 1/2  cup  of water and mix. 

Add the yeast mixture and continue to mix until it form a soft dough. Cover with a warm cloth and set aside for 30 minutes.

In a large pot, heat oil and drop a spoonful of the bara mixture  into the oil. Continue with several batches.   Serve with sauce.

TIPS: If you want, you can blend the garlic and pepper before adding to mixture.
